About Paula Smith D.C.

Dr. Paula has been humbly practicing for over 20 years. Her special technique uses gentle, appropriate force to align the musculoskeletal system and stimulate and balance the nervous system in order to support the healing of the body.

“I am the eighth of nine children. When I was 10 years old I had a series of debilitating migraine headaches. My sister took me to a wonderful practitioner who taught me biofeedback and the beginnings of yoga. I have not had those headaches since then.  While I was completing my undergraduate studies, I felt a desire to go beyond my coursework at the time. ‘There should be more than this,’ I thought to myself. I traveled to Nepal and India, where I looked, listened, and learned that most self-searching is to be found inside. I said to a fellow Western traveler, ‘Isn’t it funny that you travel all this way to find yourself?’ Although at times I felt like the joke was on me, I am so grateful for the learning experiences I had during this time in my life. Later, while trekking in Nepal, I met a female chiropractor who explained the idea that a healthy spine leads to a healthy body, mind and spirit. I kept walking as I reflected on this basic yet profound observation that is at the core of chiropractic philosophy.

Still, it was not until the chiropractic who cared for me after I was injured in a head-on collision in 1987 suggested that I should become a chiropractor myself that I really began to consider this as a career possibility. Soon after, I set the goal of becoming a doctor of chiropractic. I graduated from Western States Chiropractic College in 1996, had our first child right out of school, and started practicing six months later.

I moved my practice to Uptown Village in the fall of 1998 because of the community of wonderful people who also happen to be healthcare practitioners. In 2003, we took the opportunity to buy and remodel the office and garden.

The way I practice is to integrate the science and art of chiropractic to bring you back to your center so you not only feel better in the short term, but you have the capacity to thrive.  My technique is to use gentle, appropriate force to adjust the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, which affect the  whole body. My intention is to help create ease by adjusting the dysfunction in the spine, which can manifest in body aches, mental discomfort, and spiritual upset. I also integrate nutrition and exercise when appropriate, and recently have begun incorporating the amazing healing power of cold laser therapy.

I have two children and a husband who are dearer to me than I ever thought possible.

When you do not have your health you do not have much.”
